Cover Reveal, Judgement, Supernatural Horror.

JUDGEMENT is coming just in time for the Halloween season!!! Mark your calendars, add to your date reminders and set your alarm. Release date is October 15th!

Seeing your mother engulfed by darkness changes a person.

The memory has haunted Kristin all her life. It drove her to join Spirit Investigators International, and to explore paranormal activity and locations. It brought her to the dark ruins of Debois Penitentiary for the Criminally Insane.

Kristin's team is assigned to investigate, but they find themselves confronting the pure malevolence that infuses the concrete walls. The darkness has returned, and this time it means to be Kristin's judge, jury and executioner.

Unedited Chapter One:

Gillian moved about the room, papers scattered all over the place. She’d planned to get most of the reports together by the end of the day, but that had been interrupted by a phone call she had not expected. Looking down at the pad of paper next to her cell phone, she still couldn't believe their good luck. Their financiers were getting antsy. They wanted results, and the last few excursions had been less than fruitful. Picking up the pad, she wrote,

Debois Penitentiary.

She’d heard the stories and knew the history of the jail. It had suffered a large amount deaths. Both natural and unnatural causes. It was also surrounded by a mysterious fire that had taken all but two lives before being shut down. The chance for paranormal activity was high, and that’s what the group needed right now. Gillian knew if they didn't produce something worthwhile soon, the foundation was going to shut down. She wasn't about to let that happen. One way or another this next hunt needed to pan out. As she headed for the door, a knock stopped her.

“Who’s there?”

“Gillian, it’s me.” a gruff voice answered. “You left a message.”

Gillian opened the door. Moving back to her desk, she made room for J to sit down. She’d not expected him to come over so quickly. The fact he had, meant he knew how dire their situation was. She hoped she might be able to lighten that load now.

“I got a call. A good case.”

 “Define good.”

 “Debois Penitentiary. It’s perfect.”

“I've heard of this place. I thought they refused to let anyone investigate?”

Gillian had heard the same. “I know, but I got a call from the company that owns it. They are tired of all of the stories about the place. It makes it hard to sell the property, so they want us to go in and debunk it all.”

“And if we can’t?” Jack sat on an old wooden chair. “That place has a long and dangerous history.”

Gillian sighed. “I know, but if we are as good as we claim to be, we can’t pass up investigating this place. Besides, we need a success to reassure our investors.”

“You've heard from them again?”

“Mr. Anker called early this morning. I got the sense if we don’t produce something worthwhile soon, they’ll pull our contract.” She’d also heard him threaten to sue them for false promises, but she wasn’t about to tell Jack that. “We need to  make sure this gig  pans out.”

Jack stood and faced her. “If we get evidence, then great. If we don’t, I won’t fabricate it just to placate some suits.” He made  for the door, and then stopped. “If this place lives up to its reputation, you shouldn't worry about  getting things on tape.”

“Who do you want to include?” Gillian asked, pen ready. “Alex is available.”

“Definitely get Alex, but I also want Ed and Matt involved.”

“Will that be enough?”

Jack shook his head. “No, call Kristin in. I need her for this one.”

Coffin Hop

Welcome all ghouls, zombies, vampires and creatures of the night. Whether you enjoy the genre, love the season, or just want to immerse yourself in the feel of the season, you are sure to find something for everyone with the amount of blogs involved in this hop. So, pull up a chair, grab something to drink and enjoy the hop.

First, here's a bit about the hop:

COFFIN HOP is the annual Horror Author event, geared towards gaining exposure for indie horror and genre authors, and increasing interaction with fans and readers. Conceived in 2011 by authors Axel Howerton and Julie Jansen, COFFIN HOP was initially intended to be a small answer to the proliferation of author blog hops for Romance, Erotica and other genres while noticing a dearth of well-organized, high profile events for horror writers.

The first annual COFFIN HOP bloomed to over 100 authors and brought in thousands of readers and fans over the week leading up to Halloween. Every one of those 100 authors held contests, gave away e-books, paperbacks, prize packages, autographed copies, toys, personalized writings, videos, themed jewellery, movie posters… the list goes on and on and on.

This year, we want to take COFFIN HOP to a whole new level. In addition to the week-long event (running October 24-31, 2012), we will be releasing a collection of some of the best stories from our best author-members. Exclusive to our collection COFFIN HOP 2012: DEATH BY DRIVE-IN are stories from C.W LaSart (Ad Nauseum), Red Tash (Troll or Derby, This Brilliant Darkness), Jessica McHugh (Rabbits in the Garden, Torn Realities), Dan Dillard (Demons and Other Inconveniences), Erik Gustafson (Fall Leaves and the Black Dragon) and many more.  Mad B-Movie tales of Drive-In derivation, including: Brains from Space! Robot Squids Gone Wild! Radioactive Microwave Men! Monster Mash Massacres! Crotch Tentacles! Pinterest-loving Werewolves! Vampire Seduction! Man-eating Toilet! Robot Lincoln & Zombie Jackson! Interior art by Nicolas Caesar! Foreword by Stink of Flesh director Scott S. Phillips! Cover by the infamous Chris Dow and

The best part is, all profits from COFFIN HOP 2012: DEATH BY DRIVE-IN will be donated to to help encourage literacy.

Now, my part in this will be simple. I'll have random posts going on and all those that post comments to my questions/inquires will be entered in to win a copy of my newest horror release, DEADLY DESCENT.

So, be prepared to be entertained and ready your clicking finger to hit all the fantastic authors and above all... have fun!! Below is a list of all the authors involved. If in doubt, the main site is here

As always, happy reading and writing.

Vampires the Immortals

So, with this being the month for Halloween, I figured I would talk about some of my favorite creatures of the night. Today that's vampires. I have a series currently in process that does involvee vampires. This one involves the a war brewing between differing factions of vampires and enlists the aid of the Fae.

Now, there are many myths and legends out there, and it would take a long time to go through them, so I will just address some of my favorites. One of the main common ties is that one can be turned. Some say you can be born into the race, others say it was a curse that can be transferred to another. I like the idea of it being a mesh of them both. You can see this in many different movies and books. One of my favorites is below.

I have to say, I adored Saleene’s character in this series. She was a kick butt warrior who was only out to take care of what she believed had killed her family. Now, she was misled, but in the end, she went with the truth. I also enjoyed the idea that it all began with immortals that were mutated into the different lines. You have to give them credit; they were able to roll the world of Vampires into the human world quite well. By all accounts, they did not seem to turn new people and had very strict rules for their kind.

The vampires in this movie are different than most I’ve seen. They are, in and of themselves, a race of animals that eat everything. There is an intelligence in their world, but you never really see what they are thinking. They have a hierarchy which cannot be missed and they are ruthless. I won’t get into too much in case those reading have not seen the movie, but I have to say, I really enjoyed this movie. If you like different aspects of vampires, this one is a good one to see. It is not your normal run of the mill type vampires. These are beasts, pure and simple. But it makes them really interesting.

Okay, I cannot talk about vampires without discussing Blade. His is an interesting twist as he was not turned, nor a pureblood immortal. He was born after his mother was infected. His hatred of the race is impossible to miss when he takes up with his friend and hunts them down. Throughout the series you can’t help but see all the evil they have pushed in this version of the Vampire. However, if you’ve seen Blade III you are introduced to the source of the vampires, Drake. He is the original. Even though they tried to make him evil, he had a code of honor that you could not miss at the end. I liked how they presented him in the last movie.

And then there is the first, and ultimate, vampire. Bram Stoker’s Dracula was the ultimate. He was cursed, by forsaking god and could turn others into vampires as well. In one of the more recent  movies, you could see the humanity in the character. He was haunted by his past and the life he lost. To read the story, it is a very dramatic tragedy. Yes there are horrific acts when he takes another life, but there is an underlying commitment he has to the woman he lost.

In the end, I can understand why the vampire has remained a distinct figure in both movies and books. There is a fascination with them, a calling for things that are forbidden, and the belief that one can cheat death. My favorite idea of a vampire would be that they are not cursed, but are a separation from humans. They are a race, of themselves, that cannot be turned but must co-exist. Though they have the possibility of long lives, I prefer the stories that show them as not immortals, but that they just age slower than humans but do have weakness that can be exploited. This is something I plan to explore in a new series coming out sometime in 2013.

I would love to know what you, my readers, like and dislike about vampires. What fascinates you, draws you in and keeps you reading/watching. Is it the act of bloodletting, the ability to remain young or the possibility of never dying? What drives you, compels you, to keep reaching for that next movie or book or do the idea of the vampire completely turn you away?

As always, happy reading and writing.
