I'm still finding it hard to believe that Steve Jobs has passed. Although I did not know him, I knew his products and the history behind them. It still amazes me the following he has had, and the amount of out pouring from those who are going to miss him. I believe he was a truly gifted person, both in mind and action. Though some will balk at calling him a visionary for the things he has done, I think they are wrong. He may not have found the cure for cancer, but he did bring about tremendous change within the world as we know it. Yes, it is via the technical side, but that is what our world is made up of now. And to listen and read articles and quotes by him, I cannot imagine he was nothing short of brilliant. One of the quotes that I read that, to me, sums up much of who he was was this:
“That’s been one of my mantras -- focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
[BusinessWeek, May 25, 1998]
I know that most of us did not know him, not the personal side of him, but we grew with him and his company. We watched and waited to see what new brand of genius would come next. Now we can only hope that his legacy can live in and those who were close to him can find peace knowing that he is, has and always will be remembered.
Rest In Peace Steve Jobs. You will never be forgotten.
